Position Purpose

The purpose of the position is to provide front-line support and customer service to the community, front line officers, CIB and other police agencies, and perform Front Desk duties at the district station.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

Answer telephone and in-person inquiries from members of the public and internal stakeholders for assistance and information.

Respond to inquiries or refer calls/visitors to appropriate area or external agency and determine whether police attendance is required.

Respond to complaints, using diplomacy, tact and good judgment in their interactions with the public.

Monitor cells and station area via video and CCTV, and notify OIC or escorts of unusual occurrences or potential disasters.

Ensure officer and public safety at all times at station by monitoring cameras in lobby area, parking lots, employee entrance, interview rooms, Sallyport, etc.

Control access to the building by checking identification and authorization and issuing visitor passes.

Complete 411 searches, CPIC, CNI and local searches for officers on the road.

Complete minor incident reports and obtain information from public and appropriate signatures from Supervisors. Create incident numbers for members of the public for the purpose of completing on-line reports.

Complete Victim Notifications for Courts bureau regarding released accused parties by informing victim of release conditions.

Sign in persons reporting for probation/parole/bail conditions and maintaining log.

Act/appointed as a Commissioner for taking affidavits, swear to documents for members and administer oaths/affirmations to witnesses, victims and accused.

Receive and release seized/found property.

Complete traffic court sign in sheet / subpoena list; printing off sheet and ensuring officers sign in; have OIC approve said sheet and forward to appropriate POA court at end of shift.

Coordinate and fill last minute paid duty requests in an expeditious manner by determining client’s needs and number of paid duty officers being requested.

Ensure surveillance tapes are changed on schedule.

Print paid duty list and assign call signs and portables to officers; print and disseminate parade sheets.

Maintaining an issued notebook in compliance with YRP Procedure LE-022 using E-Notes.

Order taxis for officers on the road as well as for prisoners being released from custody.

Arrange for cleaning of biohazardous materials/substances from police cruisers, cells, cell areas and police equipment using First Response Cleaning Service.

Provide child care and/or pet care to children and/or pet of victims and/or accused parties transported to the station.

Assist Fleet with coordination of vehicles requiring repair; arrange for pick up of vehicles that have had maintenance from various service locations (dealerships, etc.)

Attend court as required – testify in court to provide evidence in judicial proceedings in a clear and concise manner.

Responsible for the case and proper usage of confidential data in the CPIC system and maintains the log for persons on probation/recognizance or parole.

Education, Licensing & Certifications
Two (2) Year College Diploma in Police Foundations or a related field; or the equivalent training & experience

 

Experience
One (1) year of previous police/Law enforcement experience to respond to inquiries, complete reports and process warrants etc.

Skills

Knowledge of relevant YRP policies and procedures, Highway Traffic Act, Trespass to Property Act, Landlord Tenant Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act and bi-law.

Knowledge of CPIC, CNI, Paris, Versadex, or other RMS system, 10 codes, phonetics is an asset.

Ability to speak, read, write languages other than English would be an asset.

Knowledge of emergency system processes, organizational structure and hierarchy.

Computer and keyboarding skills, with a working knowledge of internet and Microsoft Office applications.

Problem solving abilities in order to respond to complaints and assess the nature of inquiry to determine if police response is required. Decisions are made from known alternatives or referred to the Supervisor.

Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal members at all ranks, and the general public to handle complaints and inquiries and explain and exchange information. Good judgement, tact and diplomacy is required.

Exceptional customer service skills to deal with a wide array of personalities on a daily basis.

Organizational skills and the ability to complete a multitude of tasks simultaneously.

Ability to participate effectively as a team member.

Maintain an issued notebook in compliance with YRP procedure LE-022 using E-Notes.
