To perform the duties set out as for a police constable.  To preserve peace, protect property and be visible and engaged in the community; provide safety education and support to the community in crime prevention; public order; assist the victims of crime; investigate offences and provide emergency response to ensure the safety and security of our community and to fulfill our organizational values.
 
POSITION DUTIES:

Respond to emergencies and calls for policing service
Safety operate police vehicles
Federal, provincial and municipal law enforcement
Process offenders and participation in their prosecution
Provide court testimony
Effective workflow management
Evidence management
Fulsome and accurate notetaking
Communicate effectively with diverse communities
Traffic law enforcement
Motor vehicle collision investigations
Proficiently use computer/smart technologies, and programs essential to the role (MWS/Computers/Versadex/Word)
Create accurate and concise reports for a wide variety of incidents
Create and complete accurate tickets and other legislative/YRP forms
Understand own role and the organization’s reporting structure
Critical thinking and de-escalation skills
Effective/proper radio etiquette
Providing guidance to new/junior officers
Engage and education of public through interactions and proactive policing
Report to duty, fit for duty on time
Maintain integrity and professionalism
Effectively conduct interviews/investigations with complainant, victims, subject and accused
Making observations/recording intelligence gathering, collection of evidence, confidential human source cultivation, warrant execution for investigations
Assisting victims of crime
Attend and successfully complete training and yearly requalification
Participate in District initiatives
Investigate and enforce complaint areas
Mental health crisis support and provide community resource to public
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

When applying for the position of an experienced police constable – experienced officer with York Regional Police, you must meet the following criteria to be considered in the selection process:
Successful completion of recruit training at the Ontario Police College (experienced police officers policing outside of Ontario, or with the RCMP, are required to complete the OPC Exemption Exam, if eligible)
Successful completion of their probationary period with their current service, pursuant to Section 44.1 of the Police Services Act
Must be a member in good standing (i.e. no outstanding discipline matters or charges)
Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence with full driving privileges
Have proof of successful completion of four years of secondary school education or equivalency
Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
Possess valid standard or emergency first aid and CPR Level C certification, at minimum
Current fitness test (PIN, PARE, POPAT, PREP) within the last 12 months
 
TRAINING EXEMPTIONS:

Experienced police officers who have graduated from the Ontario Police College (OPC) are exempt from recruit training.
An experienced officer who has completed a Canadian police recruit training program comparable to the OPC program, and approved by the OPC, must write an Equivalency Exemption Exam.  A candidate must have entered the selection process in order to write the exam and must obtain a passing grade to be considered at York Regional Police.
 
Graduates from the following OPC-approved programs are eligible to write the exemption exam:
Atlantic Police Academy
British Columbia Justice Institute
Calgary Police Service
Ecole Nationale de Police du Quebec
Edmonton Police Service
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Depot
Saskatchewan Police College
Winnipeg Police Service
All other experienced police officers must complete the OPC recruit program.
 
International Applicants:
