Title: Auxiliary Constable
Position Purpose
Auxiliary members support uniform patrol in the delivery of community-based crime prevention initiatives and ground searches for lost or missing people. Members also volunteer at community events such as parades, fairs and assisting in car and foot patrols.

On duty, Auxiliary members must:
- Obey lawful orders implicitly
- Dress and behave as a member of a disciplined organization
- Conform to the Rules and Regulations of the Police Services Act and York Regional Police

When applying for the position of Auxiliary constable with York Regional Police, you must meet the following criteria to be considered in the selection process:
- Have no criminal record for which you have not received a pardon and be of good character
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and at least 18 years-old
- Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position, having regard for his or her own safety and the safety of members of the public
- Have proof of successful completion of four years of secondary school education or equivalency
- Possess valid standard or emergency first aid and CPR Level C certification, at minimum
- Possess a valid Ontario driver’s licence class G, at minimum
Auxiliary officers are classified as civilians and are only granted citizen’s powers of arrest upon completion of training. While Auxiliary members are not issued firearms, they are fully trained in their use and must be capable of handling firearms in unusual or critical circumstances.
Auxiliary members are required to dedicate a minimum of 12 hours of active duty a month plus in-service training, meetings and yearly requalification. There is a minimum one year commitment required.
Auxiliary members do not receive any payment or remuneration.
