Position Purpose
The primary purpose of the position is to ensure that data is available, protected from loss and corruption, easily and efficiently accessible as needed and to implement technologies for applications interfaces development and support.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor and maintain MS SQL Server database instances, server configuration, replication, backup, partitions, storage and permissions for Telestaff, eNotes, BI, YRPNet, web applications, LaserFiche, SharePoint, In-Car Camera, and all systems using a SQL Server database.
Monitor and maintain Oracle database objects, server configuration, replication, backup, partitions, storage and permissions for Mugshot, YRP PeopleSoft, Store and Forward and all systems using an Oracle database.
Monitor and maintain Informix and PostgreSQL database objects, service configuration, set up custom file structures and database objects, grant permission to users regarding this data.
Design and establish strategies back up databases and maintain logs.
Assist developers on database, table structure design, indexing, and DB related programming. Preform analysis on proposed application development when required.
Analyze business intelligence requirements and design, create and maintain the data loaded from various sources.
Install minor product upgrades as well as major upgrades to databases, software, application tools and any backend server applications.
Contribute to upgrading all databases and applications by setting up, migrating, modifying, re-compiling programs and testing all custom system configurations, programs and scripts.
Create, schedule and monitor automatic daily scripts using Unix Cron utility and Windows Task Scheduler or other task scheduling solution.
Develop, maintain, schedule execution and distribution of customer reports.
Estimate data growth trends and plan storage capacity for database servers.
Review projects and task timetables and provide weekly status reports to the supervisor.
Configure, maintain, troubleshoot and tune cloud client APIs on security, performance and connections.
Maintain GPS over speed monitoring process and provide GPS and officer activity data for BI and crime analysis.
Coordinate specific assigned system developments and implementation activities, including preparation of the system analysis as well as general and detail design documents and prototype development.
Understand and respond to clients’ inquiries and requests, provide solutions to clients.
Design, implement and maintain data life cycles management within organizational policies.
Review and update procedural manuals as required.
Education, Licensing & Certifications
Four (4) year university degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Experience
Four (4) years of previous job experience in database administration, script programming or performance tuning.
Skills
Oracle Database or Microsoft SQL Server Administration certification required.
Database administration skills in Oracle, SQL Server, Informix, PostgreSQL and My SQL in on-premises, hybrid and on cloud environments.
Operating System scripting skills for Unix/Linux Shell script, DOS batch script and Windows PowerShell.
Troubleshooting skills on server resources: CPU, memory, I/O, disk space on Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
Report-generator tools and Programming languages including 4GL, FourJs, SQL Server Reporting Service, JSON, Python, C++, JavaScript and .net.
Knowledge of relevant internal YRP procedures, software vendor manuals, industry magazines and publications containing accepted industry standards and vendor application support.
Proven problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
Skills with research design and methodologies, data collection and statistical analysis techniques.
Demonstrated problem solving, decision making and project management skills with the ability and desire to self-learn.
