Position Purpose
The purpose of the position is to support YRP’s Wellness Strategy by delivering direct mental health services to YRP members and retirees. The Mental Health Clinician(s) provide short term treatment, referral services, Safeguard sessions, consultation, psychoeducation, critical incident response, and Psychological Services program development and support for their designated work area and as needed to the membership at large.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Provide intake and psychotherapy appointments to members.
Delivers Safeguard sessions to members with higher risk of exposure to traumatic situations and distressing material.
Responds to members in crisis and act as a liaison for referrals to external supports.
Assesses the needs of various units and working locations within the organization, and develop and offer corresponding relevant programming/training.
Coordinate and deliver mental health/wellness programming for designated areas such as parades.
Provide education and training sessions for supervisors and members on a variety of mental health and wellness topics.
Manage scheduling of personal mental health sessions.
Maintain protected health records using highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
Respond to critical incidents, assess the situation and participate in coordinating the response within embedded districts, implementing YRPs critical incident related procedures.
Travel to various designated work sites across York Region to engage with members.
Gather both qualitative/anecdotal and quantitative data on effectiveness of services and report de-identified data for program evaluation.
Present data to YRP leaders on mental health programming through meetings and presentations.
Complete wellness related projects to meet strategic priorities within the Wellness strategy.
Write articles on relevant wellness topics and other multimedia content to provide information to members via the WellnessFirst App and YRPnet.
Collaborate with Wellness Staff to meet strategic objectives in a timely fashion.
Develop and deliver research focused presentations to external psychologists on police relevant subjects.
Consult and collaborate with external providers (e.g. WSIB, Operational Stress Injury (OSI) working groups).

Experience
Skills
Critical and creative thinking skills in order to develop solutions for and decide on appropriate interventions and referrals to be made for members suffering from a variety of psychological concerns including PTSD, depression and substance abuse.
Advanced writing skills in order to create reports and documents using technical language to influence or affect the decisions of senior management.
High level of verbal communication and conflict resolution skills. Tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with sensitive and confidential issues of members.
Research and analytical skills to identify issues and determine appropriate responses.
Program development, training design and case management skills preferred.
Experience in providing mental health services to first responders preferred.
