Position Purpose
The purpose of this position is to is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of corporate or organizational spaces, ensuring alignment with business needs and goals. This role combines strategic project management, architectural oversight, and facility planning to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and functional environments. This position reports to the Senior Director, Capital Projects & Facilities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Lead and manage space design and construction projects from inception to completion.
Define project scope, budget, timeline, and key deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders.
Coordinate all phases of design and construction, including planning, budgeting, procurement, and execution.
Work with internal teams and external designers/architects to create space layouts and designs that align with organizational needs and culture.
Review and approve architectural and design plans, ensuring they meet the functional and aesthetic goals of the organization.
Evaluate space utilization and provide solutions for optimization and efficiency.
Oversee the day-to-day activities of contractors and subcontractors during the construction phase.
Ensure that all construction work meets quality standards, safety regulations, and legal requirements.
Develop detailed project budgets and manage financial resources throughout the project lifecycle.
Monitor costs and make adjustments as necessary to avoid cost overruns.
In conjunction with Procurement, prepare, review and negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to secure the best pricing and terms.
Communicate regularly with key stakeholders to provide updates, gather feedback, and ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Work with leadership to ensure that space design and construction projects align with overall organizational strategy and business goals.
Responsible for ensuring all design and construction activities comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations, including building codes, environmental guidelines, and safety standards.
Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with all safety protocols and industry best practices.
Oversee post-construction activities, including punch lists, final inspections, and facility handover.
Develop maintenance schedules and guidelines to ensure long-term functionality and upkeep of the spaces.
Plays a key role in the creation of the organizations multi-year capital construction, renovation and infrastructure revitalization and replacement program.
Takes a proactive approach to understanding and preparing future needs and requirements.
Prepares and submits all necessary business cases and funding submissions in support of agreed/approved direction and ensures plans are realistic and can be achieved within estimated budgets, timelines and available resources.

Skills
Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred.
Certified Construction Manager (CCM) is preferred.
Facility Management Professional (FMP) is preferred.
