Position Purpose
The purpose of the position is to assist the public in both emergency and non-emergency situations ensuring that police personnel and the public are assisted in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Respond to emergency and non-emergency requests from police personnel on the road.
Provide officers with relevant call information, sending officers to areas where police assistance is required.
Conduct various types of checks for officers such as telephone and address checks, names and vehicle checks.
Obtain additional information or clarification if needed by police.
Ensure the safety of the public and police personnel.
Keep track of police car locations and status to ensure office safety and to ensure the most efficient response time.
Coordinate with other dispatchers to ensure they are aware of priority or important information.
Operate the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to generate calls for service, organizing area cars to ensure availability for emergency calls at any given time.
Monitor radio frequency and dispatch terminals.
Review suspect and/or victim names on locals, CPIC, CNI, LEIP, CFRO, LOCS, Versadex and PARIS to obtain information pertinent to the call; using appropriate system commands and abbreviations.
Communicate with other police services/agencies to notify or receive information.
Follow YRP procedures, Regional 911 policies, and emergency procedures to ensure compliance.
Perform duties of a Call Taker, as required.

Skills
Knowledge of relevant police procedures, rules and regulations, CPIC, RMS, 10 codes, phonetics, boundaries, PARIS and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD).
Knowledge of emergency system processes, organizational structure and hierarchy, and communications procedures.
Solid organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated problem solving and decision making abilities to determine call priorities and what order to dispatch calls for service based on the situation.
Communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal members at all ranks to exchange information and request additional information or assistance when required.
