Position Purpose
The purpose of the position is to support the Intelligence Bureau by conducting research, and gathering information, from internal and external police databases (Records Management Systems and Intelligence Databases), partner agencies, secure portals, and open sources following internal and external policies, procedures, approved intelligence protocols and legislative guidelines. Uploading and collating research data in an intelligence database using a structured approach and best practices including the preparation of various intelligence products. This position is responsible for disseminating incoming crime and intelligence information, bulletins and judicial releases received from external agencies.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to support the goals of Integrated Crime Analysis (ICA) and the Intelligence Bureau, following standardized methods for data collection in compliance with York Regional Police procedures.
Apply research methodology and software tools to collect and categorize relevant criminal and non-criminal data from numerous sources.
Review, evaluate, extract, and capture specific and accurate information from various sources based on the parameters of the research request for a subject or group.
Upload, update and collate data into an approved York Regional Police intelligence database which is used to produce detailed, standard intelligence products.
Prepare research documents for crime analysts, investigators and commanders for various projects and investigations.
Assist in the preparation and dissemination of various analytical and intelligence products.
Research, Compile and consolidate information for subjects of interest and groups that will assist in the preparation of the Provincial Threat Assessment in collaboration with Strategic Intelligence Analysts.
Liaise with internal and external investigators, analysts, subject matter experts, and command staff to collect information on criminal markets.
Support the management of the inbox and disseminate incoming reports and bulletins requiring action or notice and coordinate response to requests for information from frontline officers, units, and command staff.
Assist Integrated Crime Analysis (ICA) and Intelligence Bureau with research and tracking related subjects, companies, crime groups, and requests such a bi-weekly overdose reports for CISO.
Ensure Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO) Offline search requests are received.
Support dissemination of Release Orders and Bail Violations: determine district of accused or surety, share with district analyst, investigative unit analyst or intelligence analyst.
Confers and collaborates with crime analysts, and ensures consistency in research.
Assist with the research, and development of the Intelligence Bureau Procedures and Policies.
Support requests from outside agencies: assess request and determine best approach based on standard operating procedures.
Research service provider information from Telephone Company Law Enforcement web portals and conduct phone number confirmation/verification for investigators region wide.
Conduct Level 2 Internet Investigations and capture and store digital evidence, including any final reports, as per established best practices.
Assist in the development and delivery of training and education presentations.

Education, Licensing & Certifications
Four (4) year university degree in Criminology, Crime & Intelligence Analysis or a related field.
Experience
One (1) year of experience in a law enforcement organization in a related role using research methodology.
Skills
Experience researching and entering information into databases and preparing reports.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Analytical and/or Intelligence training to understand the requirements for intelligence data collection and reporting would be an asset.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task to identify and manage competing priorities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support analysts, officers and leaders through research tasks.
Technical knowledge and experience with specialized intelligence systems and databases.
Prior Police related experience would be an asset.
